Volunteer Coach

 Wendy Lucero

“I am a passionate learner, always reading and searching out new information related to triathlon training.”

Wendy Lucero has been involved with athletic endeavors all of her life. She started swimming competitively at the age of 6 and moved into running cross-country and track in high school.  After placing second in state in the 2-mile, Wendy earned a scholarship to run Division 1 cross-country and track at Miami University.  Unfortunately she suffered multiple injuries her sophomore year and decided to retire from collegiate running.

Soon after graduating she missed the sense of accomplishment she received from running.  Wendy signed up with her sister to compete in her first marathon with Team in Training and raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  She enjoyed being active again and wanted to conquer a triathlon.  Wendy again joined up with the Team in Training and finished her first triathlon, the Gulf Coast Half Ironman.  Bit by the “tri bug,” she continued to race competitively, placing at the top of her age group and overall.

After having her second back surgery, Wendy is in semi-retirement.  Still wanting to be involved in the multisport arena, she has turned to coaching athletes to assist them in reaching their goals.  Wendy is a certified USA Cycling Coach and will receive her USA Triathlon Coaching Certificate in early 2008.
