Community Service

2008 Peachtree Tri Club's Bike MS Team

We are more than just a triathlon club!  We want to make a difference in our community!  Periodically, we will plan a different Community Service Day in which our members may participate.  We currently have the following Community Service Events scheduled for 2009:

  • 2nd Annual 5-Mile Trail Run/Walk/Hike for Sight benefitting the Georgia Eye Bank Saturday March 7, 2009.  Stone Mountain Park (Studdard Picnic Arena).  Proceeds from this event will go to Georgia Eye Bank, the only facility in the state that provides donor eye tissue to every Georgian who needs the Gift of Sight, including corneas for transplant and other refractive surgeries, sclera for glaucoma and oculoplastic surgeries and human eye tissue for sight saving research.  Each week Georgia Eye Bank is asked to provide 20-30 corneas for transplant, and as many as four pieces of sclera for surgery.  The donor family is not responsible for any additional hospital, physician or laboratory costs related to the donation process.  Through eye donation, tens of thousands of Georgians have already received the Gift of Sight.  Our Club President, Mari Fridenmaker, was a cornea transplant recipient in 2002.  Mari now dedicates her triathlon races to this important organization!

For more information about this event and to sign up, please see our Event Flyer.  To register for this event online using SignMeUp, click here  or to email Mari Fridenmaker at trimarifri@gmail.com to get on the list.
  • Bike MS: Georgia Power Savannah Ride, May 2-3, 2009. This 2-day ride takes advantage of the beautiful scenery with routes through the moss-draped oaks, past majestic buildings, through Savannah historic squares and among friendly smiles. In only its fourth year, the ride is quickly becoming one of the premier cycling events in the state. Approximately 100 miles are covered during the two-day ride. Day One (Saturday) offers a 50+ mile option, while Day Two(Sunday) is 30+ miles. The end result is a two-day ride that will showcase the coastal region and offer time to explore historic Savannah with your friends and family The Peachtree Tri Club’s Savannah Team has been formed and ready for member signup. See PTC Team  to join.
